China stocks opened lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index opening at 2,097.21, down 0.21 percent.
The Shenzhen Component Index opened at 7,430.61, down 0.26 percent.
China is due to release growth data for the first quarter at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The market consensus is that expansion may slip below the annual target of 7.5 percent.
