A forum focusing on the common prosperity and development of China and its neighboring countries has begun in Beijing.
The event is being held by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. And it's the first time the academy has brought together other think tanks for collaborative dialogue. Delegates hail from 23 countries including Russia, Japan, Vietnam and the Philippines, as well as countries along what's now known as "the Silk Road Economic Belt."
The two-day session will discuss ways to boost trade, investment and economic ties, along with conventional and unconventional security cooperation. In the opening keynote speech, the chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress, Fu Ying, explained China's new concept for Asian security.
"During the CICA summit held in Shanghai last week, Chinese President Xi Jinping envisioned a mechanism that stresses common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security. We need to innovate our security concept, establish a new regional security cooperation architecture, and jointly build a shared road for win-win Asian security," Fu said.
