The State Council, the country's cabinet, has approved a plan to develop Zhujiang-Xijiang economic belt in a bid to revitalize the regional economy.
The economic belt, which covers the areas of South China's Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, will strive to build a comprehensive transportation channel and ecological corridor, according to a document posted on the central government's website on Wednesday.
It will be developed into a new growth engine for the opening-up and development of the country's southwest and central south regions and serve as model for regional coordinated development and ecological development, it said.
