China remained the largest exporter of major items to Vietnam in the first half of 2014, including machinery, equipment, tools and accessories, fabrics, materials for garment, footwear and steel among others, said Vietnam Customs on Monday.
According to a recent report on the website of General Department of Vietnam Customs, China continued to be the largest supplier of machinery, equipment, tools and accessories for Vietnam during the first half of 2014, with total revenue of nearly 3.62 billion U.S. dollars, up 25.8 percent year-on-year.
China was followed by Japan and South Korea during January-June period, with export revenue of 1.74 billion U.S. dollars and 1.49 billion U.S. dollars, respectively.
During six-month period, Vietnam spent 10.45 billion U.S. dollars importing the machinery, equipment, tools and accessories, up 21.7 percent year-on-year, said the department.
In addition, in the first six months, China also topped Vietnam 's imports of fabrics worth over 2.25 billion U.S. dollars, up 27. 2 percent year-on-year, accounting for 49 percent of the total import revenue of Vietnam.
Among major markets supplying materials for garment, textile and footwear in Vietnam in the first six months, China ranked first with export turnover of 752 million U.S. dollars, up 29.4 percent year-on-year, accounting for 33 percent of Vietnam's total import revenue of the item.
During six-month period, Vietnam imported some 2.33 million tons of steel from China, posting a sharp increase of 31.2 percent year-on-year, making up 46 percent of Vietnam's total import steel volume.
China maintained to be the largest fertilizer exporter to Vietnam during six-month period with over 905,000 tons, up 9.2 percent year-on-year, accounting for 48 percent of the country's total import fertilizer volume, said Vietnam Customs.
China has been Vietnam's largest trade partner for the last 10 years.
