Coal mines should produce in accordance with their capacity, or they will be ordered to halt production or face a fine up to 2 million yuan ($324,000), read a statement posted Thursday on the website of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the country's top economic planner.
The NDRC said that many coal mines have been producing beyond their capacity, which will hurt market order and also pose safety hazards.
Production capacity of coal mines should be registered at coal authorities, the NDRC said.
