Guangdong's imports of garments and accessories increased by 34.14 percent in the first half of the year to reach $406 million, accounting for 13.22 percent of China's total garments and parts import volume during the first six months of this year, according to statistics from Guangdong Customs.
Meanwhile, the province's exports of garments and accessories saw a slight decrease of 1.14 percent to hit $14.4 billion from January to June.
Guangdong continued to be the biggest province in garment production this year, the customs figures show.
The southern China mainland province, which borders Hong Kong and Macao, produced 2.94 billion pieces of clothing between January and June, up 6.73 percent year-on-year, making up 20.83 percent of the country's total. Of them, 1.64 billion were knitwear and 1.299 billion were woven garments.
East China's Jiangsu province, which manufactured 2.45 billion pieces of garments in the six months ending June, came in second.
