UNDP honors head of Gree Electric

Dong Mingzhu, president of Gree Electric Appliances Inc, was honored as UNDP's global messenger of sustainable urban development project on Wednesday in Zhuhai, Guangdong province.

The honor was given for Dong's role of leading the Zhuhai-based home appliances manufacturer to make sustainable development by producing environmentally friendly products over the years.

Gree's latest self-innovated air conditioner, which is operated by photovoltaic power, realizes zero energy consumption.

Moreover, the company has invested more than 1 billion yuan to build four recycled treatment centers nationwide since 2011.

"The honor should create more public attention for urban sustainable development by using more energy efficient products," said Dong.

Patrick Haverman, deputy country director of UNDP, said UNDP had implemented projects to promote energy-saving home appliances in China.

"We are willing to work with local companies or better promote the project," he said.
