Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co. said Thursday it would recall a further 260,000 vehicles worldwide, including 104,905 units sold in Japan, over defective air bags made by Japanese auto parts maker Takata Corp.
The recall covers seven models, including the March and Cube compact cars and some Infiniti luxury vehicles. The Japanese carmaker reported the recall to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Kyodo reported Thursday.
No deaths or injuries have been reported as a result of the defect, Nissan said.
The latest recall came amid growing global recalls of vehicles installed with potentially faulty air-bag inflators that could rupture causing metal fragments to injure occupants.
Since April 2013, major Japanese carmakers, including Toyota Motor Corp., Honda Motor Co. and Nissan, have all recalled vehicles with Takata air bags.
So far, a total of about 2.35 million units domestically and more than 10 million cars around the world have been recalled, the ministry said.
