The newly launched Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect scheme will grow at a slow pace in the initial stage, news portal wallstreetcn.com reported on Monday, citing Ashley Alder, chief executive of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC).
It is impossible to jump to conclusions about the trading linkage solely by noting the performance of both markets over the first few days, as Hong Kong and mainland investors need time to be familiar with the stock connect program that only kicked off on November 17, Alder said.
