Mexico's transportation minister met with Chinese government officials in Beijing on Monday, discussing Mexico's cancellation of a high-speed rail contract that was awarded to a Chinese-led consortium, the Mexican Embassy in Beijing confirmed with the Global Times on Monday.
Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, Mexico's communications and transportation minister, took part in the Monday meeting, according to the embassy which did not reveal further details.
The deal for the rail project, which had earlier this month been granted to a group led by China Railway Construction, the sole bidder, was abruptly revoked by the Mexican government several days later.
