Baidu, China's largest search engine, has changed the way people used to acquire knowledge, Qunar.com, an online travel agency, has changed traditional tourism and 58.com, an information classification web site, has changed online service.
The combination of technology innovation and business model has given birth to emerging industries such as the third party payment, Internet finance and smart healthcare.
Zhongguancun has also transformed its traditional manufacturing into 'services'.
Xiaomi, a high-tech company in Zhongguancun, is a typical example.
All common appliances such as air purifiers, routers and televisions can become intelligent home products if installed with an intelligent operating system developed by Xiaomi.
The system was not innovated behind closed doors, but developed based on user experience. .
In 2014, the company with about 8,000 employees generated a full-year revenue of 74.3 billion yuan.
According to the demonstration project, Zhongguancun will implement 10 "Internet +" industrial innovation projects, covering many industries including intelligent manufacturing, Internet finance, e-commerce and intelligent logistics.
The project will support the development of digital control workshops and intelligent factories and encourage Internet financial institutions to cooperate in building an Internet financial credit information platform.
By carrying out the project, Zhongguancun aims to become the place where global advanced technology, solutions and emerging high-end industries originatedand function as an exporter of high-end Internet services by 2020.
Statistics
In 2014, the number of newly launched high-tech enterprises in Zhongguancun exceeded 13,000, twice as much compared to 2013. The total revenue of Zhongguancun enterprises reached 3.57 trillion yuan ($570.8 billion) last year, a year-on-year increase of 17.2 percent.
The total profits reached 283.23 billion yuan, up 25.1 percent compared to 2013. The actual paid-in taxes of Zhongguancun enterprises reached 186.73 billion yuan with a year-on-year growth of 23.9 percent.
