China's quality watchdog on Thursday told Land Rover to recall Evoque cars with faulty gearboxes.
The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) demanded Land Rover take immediate and effective measures to recall and repair the defective cars and extend their warranty period.
Land Rover and its authorized dealers shall contact buyers and arrange follow-up services like repairs, said the AQSIQ.
The administration urged customs authorities to strictly monitor and examine all imported Land Rovers. Land Rover shall cooperate with customs to fulfill the company's responsibilities and duties.
China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Sunday that the world's renowned automaker had installed adopted faulty gearboxes in its Evoque cars in China, but the company denied that the problem existed and blamed Chinese consumers.
