The Shanghai Tower will construct 48 floors by the end of year.
Shanghai (CNS) – The Shanghai Tower is planned to reach 632 meters and become the highest building in all Shanghai, handily beating the 508-meter Taipei 101 Building. The construction project broke ground in 2008, and to date 228 meters of the tower have been constructed.
Five underground floors were completed by December 28, with an innovative construction method that puts the huge basement in place from top to bottom; that section is about 22,000 square meters with a depth of 29.3 meters. The process is able to minimize some side-effects such as soil pollution and noisy, explained Gu Jianping, general manager of Shanghai Tower Construction and Development Company.
The screw design of the building's exterior reduces wind resistance by 24 percent, saving about 400 million yuan of the project in total, he added.
