Shanghai (CNS) -- The world's first extended-range electric vehicle, the Chevrolet Volt, went on display at the China (Shanghai) Electric Vehicle International Pilot City/Demonstration Zone on Thursday.

The Chevy Volt is the only electric vehicle able to function in all weather conditions. Exhibitors and organizers hope to attract consumers and stimulate electric car development through such demonstrations.

The demonstration zone, located in the Jiading District of northwest Shanghai, houses many Chinese energy giant exhibitors, including the State Grid, Sinopec, PetroChina and the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), all dedicated to the promotion of green energy around the city and across the country.

So far, the zone has received 21,000 visits. A survey shows that about 44 percent of the visitors would like to purchase electric cars in three years, while 95 percent would choose electric vehicles if they cost less than 200,000 yuan.
