Beijing (CNS) -- National discipline inspection and supervision offices received 1,345,814 petition reports in 2011, and punished 142,893 confirmed violators, 4,843 of whom worked at positions above the county level, according to Cui Shaopeng, high official and spokesman of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China.
Also among the confirmed, 118,006 were punished for violation of party discipline and 35,934 for disobeying government regulations. The 777 most severe cases were sent to judicial offices and may go to trial.
The official action retrieved governmental losses amounting to 8.44 billion yuan (about $1.34 billion) in total, Cui said.
Cases against former Railway Minister Liu Zhijun, as well as former high governors Tian Xueren of Jilin Province and Huang Sheng of Shandong Province, are still under investigation.
