Shanghai (CNS) -- Five construction projects at the forthcoming Shanghai Disneyland were launched last year, including the site, the main lake, a paddock "river" and two pathways, costing a total of 4 billion yuan (US$634 million), according to Pudong New District Governor Jiang Liang on Sunday.
The Disneyland theme park will be the sixth in the world and the first in the Chinese mainland, and is planned to cover an area of 3.9 square kilometers by its scheduled completion in 2015.
24.5 billion yuan (US$3.88 million) has been allotted for the first phase of the park's construction.
The governor stressed the value of the Disney project in stimulating the urbanization process in the current Pudong New District, which comprises the former Pudong and Nanhui Districts.
