Beijing (CNS) – A book named Country Driving written by Peter Hessler is an account of China's changing society and figured into the 2011 Top Ten Best Books on China, released by Sina on January 7.
The author joined The New Yorker as a staff writer in 2000 and was the magazine's China correspondent from 2000 until 2007, years when he traveled around the country by road. Many remarkable things were recorded in the notebook he kept on his journey along the Great Wall and Down into the boomtowns of the south.
The book Country Driving made a splash for its objective observations on Chinese society and Hessler's unique take on China's issues, the awarding body explained. The book has also been recommended by some Chinese media on their annual best books lists as well, in company with Steve Jobs:A Biography, One Hundred Years of Solitude and Zhu Rongji Meets the Press.
