Urumqi (CNS) - An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted Hoxud County of the Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region on Sunday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
The epicenter, with a depth of seven kilometers, was monitored at about 42.1 degrees north latitude and 87.5 degrees east longitude, the center said in a statement.
Over 220 houses collapsed, but no injuries have been reported so far. Relief materials have been transported to the areas hit by the quake, and the water, electrical and heating systems have been operating normally.
Hoxud County is located south of Mount Tianshan, 380 kilometers from Urumqi.
