Beijing (CNS) – An earthquake jolted Hoxud County of the Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region on January 8, following which 2,600 people were transferred to shelters by 6 pm Monday, according to China's Civil Affairs Ministry.
More than 9,000 houses were impaired to varying degrees; further details are still coming in.
Relief supplies have been dispatched, including 50 cotton tents, 600 cotton quilts, 800 cotton quilts, 60 tons of coal and 10 tons of basic supplies. Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps have joined the disaster-relief efforts.
