Changsha (CNS) -- A pair of conjoined twins finally became independent from each other on the 43rd day of their lives in Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, on Wednesday.
Born on November 29, the twins weighed only 4.1 kilos together. The Hunan Children's Hospital where they are being treated has only had two such cases before, one of which did not survive long enough for the operation.
The baby girls are under rehabilitation now and still vulnerable to infections after the operation which lasted five hours and 18 minutes.
Their parents, who are farmers, named the girls "Zheng Qianyan" and "Zheng Wanyu." When put together, "Qian Yan Wan Yu" means the "thousands of words" they would like to convey to all those who have been caring for the girls.
