Pudong airport building two new runways

Shanghai (CNS) -- Pudong International Airport is working on the construction of its fourth and fifth runways to meet the demands of the domestic commercial aircraft market, Wu Nianzu, President at the Shanghai Airport Authority told CNS on Thursday.

The fourth runway project is already in progress. The fifth will need some reclamation work, and thus take longer.

By the completion of both projects, Shanghai will own altogether four terminals and seven runways at Pudong Airport and the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, a substantial reserve for the city's air transportation capacity.

Renovations of the first terminal in Pudong Airport and part of Hongqiao Airport are also underway.
