Hong Kong (CNS) -- Acker Merrall & Condit, the world's leading wine auctioneer and the oldest fine wine merchant in the U.S., held its first Hong Kong auction of the year over the weekend, resetting a number of world records.
Despite the general economic downturn, bidders remained interested in collectable wine and contributed to a total turnover of HK$66.86 million (about US$8.6 million) at the auction, said the company's CEO John Kapon.
An original wooden box containing 12 bottles of DRC Romanée Conti made in 1985 sold for HK$1.46 million (about US$187,953), the highest of the auction.
A box of precious Leroy Chambertin made in 1993 also renewed its highest record with a deal worth HK$268,400 (about US$34,410).
Acker Merrall & Condit's next auction in Hong Kong is scheduled for the end of March.
