Pingyao (CNS) – A group of 150 calligraphers gathered in Pingyao, a city in North China's Shanxi province, to write Spring Festival couplets free of charge for local residents and travelers on Monday.

Their goal was to educate people about the ancient tradition of couplets in celebrating Chinese New Year. In China, Spring Festival couplets are hung on the sides of doorways to wish good luck.

Li Jiansheng, a calligrapher from a rural area who has joined the activity for the past two years, completed a scroll in just two minutes.

In order to experience this traditional preparation for Chinese Lunar New Year, a man named Qu Enguang drove seven hours to Pingyao from Beijing with his colleagues.
