Beijing (CNS) -- The municipal government of Beijing is mediating between the capital city's major bus service providers and the state energy giant China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) to speed up the promotion and deployment of public vehicles consuming liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The commitment to clean energy is part of a mutual agreement signed on Monday by the city authorities and CNPC.
CNPC is obligated to donate 100 LNG buses in the first half of this year, and the very first batch will be put into operation on routes along Chang'an Avenue by the end of February, the agreement terms specify.
Improving the capital's air quality is one intention of this initiative, as public anxiety about PM2.5 readings has been acute recently.
