Beijing (CNS) – In the last five years, more than 17,000 drunk drivers were detained by Beijing Traffic Control Department (BTCD). During festival periods the probability of city authorities catching out-of-town drunks, as opposed to local ones, tearing up the streets of the capital is relatively higher, revealed the BTCD on February 8.
A BTCD source said that more tipsy motorists have been picked up since the end of 2006, when their department adopted a "zero-tolerance" policy for drunk driving in order to eliminate this potential trigger for traffic accidents.
