Lhasa (CNS) –State highway G318 between Nyalam County and Zhangmu Township in the Xigaze area of Tibet Autonomous Region and running along the border of China and Nepal, was reopened on Tuesday after being blocked for days by the recent severe blizzard.
According to updates by the Transport Bureau of Tibet, heavy snows accompanied by strong winds slowed down efforts on Monday. Workers and police started emergency clearance work from both ends of the blocked stretch of roadway at 8 am on Tuesday and met their basic objectives by 12:50 pm Tuesday.
It is known the transport bureau has detailed plans for the next-step in disaster relief.
On February 7 a prolonged blizzard crippled the Xigaze area, creating impassable drifts over one meter in height on its highways.
