Beijing (CNS) – The Palace Museum will increase the amount of space open to the public, as part of the primary work, its new president Shan Jixiang committed to doing on February 14. And Shan confirmed the Jianfu Palace garden will not become a public club for billionaires as rumors were contending.

The Jianfu Palace garden will now be administered by the museum, said Shan, and used for small-sized exhibitions, cultural seminars, press conferences and other activities.

Shan said the merchants and temporary exhibitions that used to cluster around the Duanmen Gate (Southern End Main entrance) have been cleared away to ensure the area serves the public good.

As of May 1, the number of ticket offices will be increased to 28 from 20, and the admissions sales center will be moved from the Meridian Gate to Duanmen Gate.
