China pushes new energy power generation

Beijing (CNS) -- China will push the development of new energy power generation in the next decade, according to a latest report released by the China Electricity Council on Tuesday.

The notion of new energy is a collection of all sorts of unconventional power sources; the authority defines it as including including solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, and marine energies.

China plans to expand its wind generator power to 100 million kilowatts by 2015, and 180 million kilowatts by 2020. National solar power generation will be driven by the goal to reach five million kilowatts by 2005, and 25 million kilowatts by 2020, the report highlights.

Wind power projects will be designed in all scales around the country, both inland and at sea, and authorities expect China to catch up with the world's top technology by 2020. Large-scale and super-huge wind power stations will be concentrated in the north, northwest and northeast parts of the country, which have huge exploration potential.

New energy development will gradually replace aspects of fossil energy consumption, a rebalancing of strategic importance to a sustainable economy as well as China's social, ecological and industrial development, stressed the report.
