Kuala Lumpur(CNS)-- Malaysia is moving forward to recognize Chinese university accreditations at the bachelor degree level and above, starting with those issued by 146 Chinese mainland universities after the date of April 28, 2011, announced Dr. Hou Kok Chung, the Malaysian deputy minister of Higher Education, on Tuesday.

Some reputable Chinese universities, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University and Nanjing University are on the list.

Malaysia and China inked a mutual recognition agreement on higher education April 28, 2011.

Dr. Hou pointed out that in accordance with that agreement Malaysia has taken the first step in the admission process and hopes China for its part will soon recognize the 54 Malaysian universities they recommended, including the University of Malaya and Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Both countries need to establish a special technical team to negotiate further whether diplomas granted before April 28, 2011 will eventually be recognized, Dr. Hou added.
