Guangzhou (CNS) -- Residents of the city of Guangzhou, more than all other Chinese locales, suffer with somnipathy. The proportion with this sleep disorder has been estimated at 47 percent.

More than this, the average step length of Guangzhouers measures 0.4 meter, according to the survey conducted by the Provincial Institute of Mental Health. The city's figures even exceed the world's previous champion Tokyo known for its fast life tempo.

Great mental pressure and little physical activity are the biggest causes of sleep disorders, whose symptoms can be snoring, insomnia, difficulty falling asleep, being a 'light sleeper' and other poor indicators of poor sleep quality.

Disorders that have developed recently can often be cured by adjusting psychological conditions, but for those who have suffered more than a month, medicines are necessary. It's an unfortunate fact that only three out of 10,000 victims whose symptoms become long-term disorders have turned to medical assistance.

This March 21, International Sleep Day, the Guangdong Society of Sleep Medicine was founded.
