Jinan (CNS) – "Watch out for wild wolves" is a piece of advice that is echoing in people's minds these days in Tengzhou County, Shandong Province.
On March 19, local police shot dead a wolf following reports of attacks on residents in Tengzhou, and on March 23, they captured a white female. The wolf being held has been identified as a grey wolf, or the so-called Chinese wolf, says wildlife biologist Ma Jinsheng.
However, a local citizen claims this "wild" creature is a pet Husky that his family raised but lost.
A DNA test will probably be needed to determine whether the canine is a wild wolf or a pet dog, advised local forestry bureau director Zhang Changpu.
