86 students hospitalized, food poisoning suspected

Guiyang (CNS) -- A number of students at a school in Babu township, Guizhou Province, are believed to be suffering from food poisoning after all fell ill following breakfast at the school canteen on Thursday. Available recent information indicates 86 have been hospitalized so far, but no deaths have been reported.

Deputy Director Lu Lingang at the publicity department of the town government confirmed the incident took place during a Thursday telephone interview with CNS. An emergency plan has been activated by the local government.

The exact number of victims needs further verification, and the cause of is still under investigation. Results of both probes are expected to be released on Friday.
