Beijing (CNS) -- The Ministry of Railways launches its four-day Qingming holiday plan on April 1. By estimation, about 2.74 million passengers will board a train to their holiday destination during this period, an eight percent hike year-on-year. Demands for additional trains to run nationwide on mid to short-range runs will soar.
The authority is enhancing regional high-speed transportation capacity on long distant routes such as Beijing-Harbin, Beijing-Guangzhou, Lanzhou-Lianyungang, and Shanghai-Kunming, as well as lines connecting popular tourist attractions to big and medium-sized cities.
Chinese typically spend their Qingming holiday worshiping ancestors, travelling, and visiting relatives, usually involving short-distance destinations. Mid to short-range lines will reach peak traffic density on April 2, with a load of about 7.45 million passengers, the authority anticipates.
