Jakarta (CNS) -- A batch of ancient Chinese coins were found by residents of the town of Pondok Kelapao, Bengkulu City, Indonesia just days ago, according to a report made Friday. The coins are deduced to be from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Bengkulu Museum head Mucha Jordi said local residents engaged in digging ditches accidentally discovered a big urn that contained 40 kilograms of foreign currency.
Studied by local museum experts, the majority proved to be Chinese (1368-1644), and a small portion are from Vietnam, like the urn itself.
The Bengkulu Museum collection of ancient copper coins numbers 30,500 at present.
