Kuala Lumpur (CNS) -- The National Zoo in Malaysia (Malay: Zoo Negara) plans to invest about US$6.5 million to create a luxury home for famous new guests – giant pandas from China, it said yesterday.
According to a source from the zoo, China agreed to loan them some giant pandas in a deal made when Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak on April 1.
The zoo has started preparations for the guests. They are selecting a suitable location from 40 acres of undeveloped land.
Local citizens have expressed strong interest in the gentle giants and hope they will arrive in Malaysia soon.
