License plate collecting new hedge

Shanghai (CNS) -- The price of a car license plate in Shanghai is approaching 70,000 yuan (about US$ 11,095), but more astonishingly, the high demand for them is undiminished, a reporter from CNS learnt at a second-hand car market on Thursday.

Some individuals who attended the auction said they were unable to afford the expensive plate, while others have started to regard plates as an alternative form of consumption that preserves its value, like an investment.

Some citizens have begun to look forward to new energy autos that save big sums on gas, and hope the government can issue car plates specially designed for the new eco-friendly vehicles.
