Wuhan (CNS) -- Some Chinese colleges have started a program designed for girls who dream of becoming graceful ladies in behavior and speech.

A reporter from CNS visited one training class sponsored by the Vocation School of Wuhan Textile University on Tuesday. She saw ten young girls in uniform yellow blouses and black skirts learning how to greet, shake hands, walk, sit and execute other moves in an elegant manner.

Wu Xiaohuan, a sophomore and class monitor, said the program consists of eight courses in total, including ones in Chinese culture, art, embroidery, clothing and dressing.

The program takes two years to complete and all are arranged in member's spare time. For Wu's session, only 62 of more than 600 applicants were admitted.

Some people mock that such classes are training wives for the rich, and others that it is an impossible mission to cultivate ladies in such a short window of time.

Guo Weiqi, an official of the college, said their intention is to teach girls to be confident, graceful, and knowledgeable, characteristics which will enhance their competitive power in both job hunting and career development.

Guo added that despite the criticism, they will insist on training as many girls as possible in the ways of well-behaved ladies.
