Hong Kong (CNS) -- An emergency drill for nuclear incidents was performed in Hong Kong on Thursday with more than 1,000 people participating, including staff members from 30 departments of the local government and 120 teachers and students from four high schools.
This is the first drill civilians have taken part in, and the largest-ever contingency drill in relation to Dayawan Nuclear Plant, which is located in Shenzhen City of Guangdong Province, adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao.
Zeng Yinquan, Chief Executive of Hong Kong, ordered the evacuation after receiving the "incident report," and within 90 minutes, 120 residents were moved to secure zones by helicopter or lifeboat, where each was subjected to a radiation detection process.
Dozens of domestic and international experts in nuclear safety observed the entire drill and would offer assessment reports to the Hong Kong government.
