(CNS) -- In 2011, a 27 year-old Chinese man named Gao Jian opened a kungfu Club in Abidjan, the capital of West Africa's Ivory Coast. Today, from its original eight members, the club has expanded into a teaching institute for more than one hundred apprentices.
Gao learnt kungfu as a teenager at the Shaolin Temple in Henan Province, famous as the cradle of the mainstream Chinese Kungfu style. Now he conducts foreign trade business in Ivory Coast
After watching local Africans teaching Chinese martial arts to the community, Gao became determined to educate them on how authentic kungfu is performed.
"I didn't make any money from the club; the tuition fees only cover the venue rent and salaries of the other coaches," said Gao, "But the satisfaction I got from the undertaking is something money can't buy."
