Guangzhou (CNS) -- Guangzhou is opening 37 city and district sports venues to the public free of charge for certain groups of residents and during specific periods of the week.
Of the newly accessible venues, 24 were used for competition and training purposed during the Asian Games held last year.
Preferential services are offered to residents with a disability, children attending middle and primary school, and those verified to have senior status or be in a low income category.
A variety of sports are included in the program, such as football, badminton, basketball, tennis, swimming, fitness dancing, and Taijiquan. Excluded are those venues used for professional training or maintenance projects or activities demanding high expertise such as cycling and shooting for example.
Reservation by phone is facilitated for venues that require booking, most of which are for ball games.
The city authority of sports is initiating free physical check ups and fitness consultation services in June.
