Hangzhou (CNS) -- The Zhejiang Kun Opera Troupe performed the Ming (1368–1644) opera "Mudanting," or "the Peony Pavillion," in Shakespeare's hometown of Stratford, Wang Shiying, head of the art delegation told CNS during a phone interview on Monday.
A local foundation dedicated to the development and preservation of Shakespeare's art heritage staged Hamlet as a return gift to the Chinese artists. The membership expressed its desire to have the enchanting 400-year-old Chinese opera staged in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
The exchange was initiated during Premier Wen's visit to Shakespeare's original residence in June 2011, in order to bridge the Chinese and British peoples through their literature and art.
