Yiwu goods in demand for European sports events

Yiwu (CNS) -- Yiwu, a hub for small commodities manufacturing and trade, is expecting an export peak as two upcoming European sports events – the UEFA European Championship and London Olympic Games - generate business opportunities.

A source from local customs said on May 4 that exports declarations in recent days have mainly focused on sports clothing for Spain, Germany and other European countries where sports are a national passion.

In the first quarter of 2012, commodities from Yiwu to Europe reached a value of US$360 million, 46 percent up over last year, of which products and equipment related to sports both experienced obvious growth, 44.1 percent and 43.1 percent respectively. Looking at balls alone, exports hit 2.5 million in the first quarter, 84.2 percent up.
