Wuhan (CNS) -- In a bid to live a useful life, laid-off worker Zhang Wuyi of Wuhan City set out to become an inventor, and developed small-sized submarines on his own.
On May 8, a silver white submarine four meters in length and two-meter wide successfully dived to the bottom of 4.5-meter-deep pool, and performed the maneuvers of underwater fishing and salvage. This is Zhang's eighth home-made submarines.
Zhang, a 37 year old high school graduate, used to work for a local textile machinery factory. In 2008, he resolved to learn to make submarines after he sensed the vast market for small-sized civil vehicles of this kind. He borrowed over three million yuan from relatives and friends, and started his up and down journey as a researcher and engineer.
The submarine he designed can dive into the waters 50 to 100 meters deep. Zhang has already sold one submarine to a seafood farmer.
