Shanghai (CNS) -- Facing the daunting task of caring for aging seniors, Shanghai is exploring eco-leisure communities tailored to their needs, said a local official on May 17.
Ma Yi, director of Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau, revealed the new initiative at the First Session of the China International Nursing Industry Seminar on Ageing.
Ma said the city is home to an increasingly larger aging population and their numbers are quickly swelling. The new-type eco-leisure community is designed to combine multiple functions of current nursing homes into one package and offer the seniors an aging-friendly and well-supported living environment.
