Hero teacher undergoes second surgery

Beijing (CNS) -- All across China eyes are on Zhang Lili, the heroic woman dubbed by netizens as "the most beautiful teacher." Zhang, who was hit by a runaway bus as she pushed two children out of the way in Jiamusi, Heilongjiang Province, underwent a second operation to remove dead tissue on Monday.

Doctors at the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University said the operation was successful, although her condition is "still complicated."

It has been two weeks since the Chinese language teacher at Jiamusi's No. 19 Middle School saved the students' lives. Zhang was so seriously injured that both of her legs had to be amputated.

Zhang's condition aroused attention from the central government; Vice Premier Li Keqiang required the Ministry of Health to fully assist local hospitals to save her life, and four groups of top experts have gone to the hospital to provide consultation.

State Councilor Liu Yandong visited Zhang on Sunday, saying "Our country and people will never forget what teacher Zhang has contributed."

The hospital has been crowded with well-wishers from all over China.

Li Ziye, Zhang's husband, said, "From now on she can rely on me, and she is my only one."
