Chengdu (CNS) -- One hundred and twenty-three post-earthquake reconstruction projects aided by Hong Kong were completed in Sichuan Province as of May 24. Another 67 Hong Kong-funded projects are still under construction.
Of the total of 190 projects, the Hong Kong government backs 151. NGOs based in Hong Kong are in charge of 32 and the Hong Kong Jockey Club is in charge of seven. Ranging across a variety of concentration, most of the projects involve education, medical care and social welfare.
Sichuan vice governor Weihong credits the projects with playing an important role in improving the living conditions for people in the quake-struck zone.
Stephen Lam, a Hong Kong official, suggests the remaining additional funds could be used to purchase equipment and books for schools and clinical instruments for hospitals.
