Beijing (CNS) -- A collection of 1,792 Chinese classics written during a range of ancient dynasties and put on the auction block by the Guoyun Collection House excited bidding that broke the record high paid for any Chinese ancient classics. RMB 216 million yuan was handed over for the series at a Beijing auction on June 4.
The auction was sponsored by the Beijing Council International Auction Company, and the sale of the ancient books became the highlight of the event. The opening bid was set at RMB 180 million yuan and closed at 188 million yuan. The deal, including commission, came to a total of RMB 216 million yuan.
The books include one unique copy of an 80-volume set of encyclopedia of Splendid Valley of Flowers (Chinese name: Jinxiu Wanhuagu) from the Song Dynasty.
