Jingdezhen (CNS) -- The restoration of a dragon kiln built during the Song Dynasty (960–1279) got underway in Jingdezhen, one of the world's porcelain capitals, on Saturday, the national cultural heritage day.
The undertaking, a re-creation of the systemic heart of a millennium-old ceramic making craft, was celebrated by industry experts attending the launch ceremony.
The kiln being rebuilt took the shape of the legendary Chinese dragon and the new kiln will echo its dimensions: about 31 meters long, two meters wide and 1.9 meters high. The dragon kiln will be able to fire tens of thousands of porcelain pieces at one time.
This particular kiln introduced its signature 'blush white porcelain' to the world. It is expected to start production when renovations are concluded in October.
