Taiyuan (CNS) -- The Year of Chinese Culture in Australia is coming to a close, and to celebrate, the dance drama Opera Warriors will premiere in the Opera Theatre, Sydney Opera House. Four shows only will be staged from 14 to 16 June.

Opera Warriors exemplifies the best of Chinese modern theatre arts in that it tells the story of Peking Opera through martial arts and modern dance.

The story introduces three performers as they train and then join a theatrical troupe, and follows them as their lives diverge and destiny steps in, dealing them the fates of death by mishap, a disastrous love affair and triumphant career success. Set in the northern part of China in the early 20th century, it typifies the struggles and sacrifices of performers attempting to bring works of artistic depth and beauty to the stage.

The dance drama was choreographed by Mr Xing Shimiao, and scripted by Ms Pik Wah Li (Lilian Lee) - one of Hong Kong's most popular columnists. The choreography, props, scenery, lighting and so on are specially designed for the outstanding venue of the opera house itself.
