Film seminar on telling 'Chinese' stories  

上海电影节论坛聚焦华语电影“走出去”

上海国际电影节论坛17日举行，著名导演冯小刚同茅盾文学奖得主、著名作家刘震云，以及享誉国际影坛的好莱坞金牌制作人麦克·麦德沃、《星际迷航》系列电影导演尼古拉斯·迈耶等纷纷与会，共同探讨如何“向世界讲述中国故事”。

Shanghai (CNS) -- Chinese and foreign directors, writers and producers gathered Sunday at a seminar focused on how to tell the world a Chinese story. The seminar was part of the ongoing Shanghai International Film Festival.

Chinese director Feng Xiaogang said the core of a film is the story. Feng recounted preparations for the film "Remembering 1942," when he and Liu Zhenyuan led a team to Henan, Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces and listened to local residents tell their stories of the past.

Mike Medavoy, a Hollywood producer, also said the key to the success of a movie is whether a director can handle the characters and the story.
